neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.

the next bleep release comes in the form of spaces debut ep, one. showcasing a wide range of styles and production talent, the ep opens with the frantic rush of beats and hushed voices of *apologies* before a reese-like bassline slices through the mix, coming across like a darkside snd remix. next up is *outside in* bridging the gap between edmx style electro-funk & gescom-style glitch. on the flip we are presented with *lever*, a broken techno track of the highest calibre, chopped snares and a off-kilter acid line whipped together to devastating effect while the ep’s coda, *in wait* combines a kaleidoscope of beats transported through an ambient techno mainframe before fading into oblivion. sounding like no other, this new artist makes his mark with clean rhythmic programming set against dirty compressed textures. the first in a series of releases, expect to hear a lot more from spaces. the vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies worldwide.

proud yorkshire label hudd traxx have been putting out a reliable stream of quality deep house since 2005, with artists like dj sneak, rick wade, iron curtis, jay bliss and agnes just some of the many names to appear on the label. this 46th release features three debutants, while the fourth name, j.t. donaldson, spearheads the release with a wishy-washy, bassline driven deep house vocal cut -got myself together-. hudd traxx provides dusseldorf producer maximiljan with his first physical release with the track -son of a- which merges the linear 909 house style of norm talley with smooth chords and cheeky vocals similar to the now defunct swiss house duo azuni. but most interesting for the label on this release, it s the two new names in professional gigolo and tuneon that prove hudd traxx still know where to look when it comes to unearthing new and vibrant talent.

modernista returns with new music from paul bennett aka duster valentine! modthree features two tracks - *overtaking on the inside lane* is a sparse, wild pitch-style rhythm track built around modulating chord sounds. on the flip *apologies apparently unnecessary* is a more individual take on the melodic deep house sounds of chicago that paul first hinted at on modone.

ocoeurs latest album a parallel life finds franck zaragoza showcasing his adeptness at fusing thoughtfully crafted melodies with twitchingly syncopated techno. in a recent interview berlin music portal kultmucke introduced zaragoza something of an idm prodigy and while thats a fair summation due to his preference for malleable beatwork and his use of heavily processed field recordings there is more there than simple glitchery. zaragozas melodies, while often shrouded in hazes of static, affect the cinematic minimalism of modern composition. these such comparisons put him stylistically hovering somewhere between the likes of arovane and max richter which is no meager feat. a parallel life aches, breathes, pulsates and is forever churning. it has a subliminal soul that is all too often a casualty of electronic music of this style. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

though the iconic imagery of disco feels distinctly tied to the united states, the style had a wide-reaching influence that made it’s way to africa. while africa was already no stranger to the pulsing rhythms of funk, afro-beat, and highlife, the rise of disco added a slick sheen to the music, with musicians from all over the continent incorporating elements of the genre into their sounds. would there ever have been a studio 54 in ghana in late 70s, these would have been the recordings that would have packed the dance floor with their deep root in disco, soul & funk! an album recorded in the late 70s packed full of legendary musicians such as harry mosco and many more… to be re-discovered 35 years after it’s initial vinyl release as a private press. a “disco documentary full of funk” proves that it stands the test of time by sounding as fresh and original as any other sought-after disco / soul funk lp from the west coast of africa in the late 70s. bbe went on another crate-digging journey and found the original producer reindorf nana oppong and the original master tapes were dusted off, transferred to digital. in the process of this, even un-released material was discovered on the tapes, which makes this a rather special package. “nana love - disco documentary full of funk” is one special journey through afro disco & boogie in the late 70s, and we at bbe can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!!!

portlandia house bastion ecstasy termed temples 2012 debut mini-lp, i-vii, ambient jack, which captures something of the projects contradictory strengths: airy yet agile, sparse but plush, flights of intuition mapped onto morphing grids of percussion, crystalline electronics, and pastel skylines. avalon kalins latest collection of tech finery, earrings ii, dials back the atmospheric quotient somewhat, though theres still a rock garden spaciousness to his mixes, each element arranged with regard to some higher harmony, the poetry of negative space. recorded in his home studio while dancing, the four tracks here ebb between passages of pressure and release, euphoric but unstable, dusted with pyramid-chamber slap back and live dubbing acrobatics. their melting clock asymmetries more closely echo kalins hardware improvisations with scott goodwin as polonaise than the velvet vocal house of his other solo vessel, finesse, but temples is ultimately a holy place all its own. a sleekly compelling statement from one of the pacific northwests secret heroes. mastered by eric hanson. edition of 305

after his successful mothership ep debut release in early 2012, santes oespotlight ep brings about a slightly new style from the berlin based dj, with spotlight taking on a definite shift towards the house and tech-house end of the music spectrum.

for our second release on wavereform, we continue our explorations into sophisticated sounds from mostly-unexplored areas with the production debut from juras lietus, a 25 year-old latvian producer from riga whose mysterious origins in this out-of-the-way locale may surprise listeners, but whose sound fits very well into the label’s mission to reform the sound sphere with simple and elegant tracks that demand attention and bring unknown talent deserved notice. lietus wastes no time in showing off his developed dub techno style on >dark frank< as the bold, well-defined contours of the bottom end are contrasted with gentler ambient textures in the opening, it acquires more force as it moves along as he adds harder percussion patterns to the framework while the dense atmospherics progress barely in the background. >direct< is the more subtle and atmospheric of the pair, as crisp, delicate drums develop slowly while also suggesting melody. it too gains strength as it goes though, with ricocheting percussion and a barely-controlled feedback wail leading into a dramatic breakdown before he slowly winds things down in the detail-rich final section. j&#363,,,,,,,ras lietus and latvian techno may be mostly unknown, but this strong showing for wavereform 002 reveals much still to be uncovered in these eastern lands.

straight out of egypt via berlin comes this excellent two-tracker from the little-known son of sun. according to the press release accompanying the whispers ep, both tracks were inspired by a week sailing a yacht around the black sea. true or not (we have our doubts), there s certainly a sun-kissed laziness - despite weighty kick-drums and hissing, detroit techno style cymbals - about the woozy, dubtribe soundsystem style deep house of a-side -moonchild-. while impressive, the real killer is -whispers-, which peppers a swinging, dance mania style hip-house groove with snaking saxophones and atmospheric, spoken word vocals. it feels like a late night adriatic anthem in the making.

all we want is vario volinski. you may recognize his name from one of the summer tunes of 2013 - falling in love. with all i want, mr. volinski created a tune that is more garage style than the things he did before. proving, that his previous summer tune wasn t a one hit wonder and that he surely is one of the producers to watch in the future. and pwu wasn t pwu if we didn t find a talented young gun as a remixer. so we found him. dan grassler. a guy from munich who convinced us from the very beginning. and his remix awesome!

soulful, gospel-inspired deep house is what joaquin diazs rhythm&soul alias brings to jef ks kiss-inspired silver network - goin strong since 99. it is his debut for the french label and he s given the royal treatment thanks to remixes from john dimas and freak n chics djebali, which includes a bonus dub mix. dimas rework is energetic and free flowing, highlighting his unique style best heard on releases for bass culture and clapp. meanwhile djebalis contributions provide two alternatives, something light and cruisey, while the dub is reduced and a house djs ultimate tool ready for the working.
